Fellowship and Internships

Fellowship:

The Hyrum Museum offers a one-year fellowship to second year graduate students who have successfully completed at least two internship credit hours at the museum. The recipient of the Graduate Student Public History Fellowship receives a stipend of $10,000 and a tuition waiver for his/her second year of school. So, to be eligible for the fellowship, you must complete an internship during either the fall or spring semester of your first year.

Duties at the Hyrum City Museum include up to twenty hours per week (at least twelve hours at the museum), beginning in May and continuing through April of the next year, helping catalog and maintain artifacts, developing and enhancing exhibits, planning and participating in programs, leading tours of the museum, and training and overseeing interns and volunteers. The fellow will work at least twelve hours a week at the Hyrum City Museum, sometimes alone, to complete specific projects including helping to plan and coordinate the Cache Valley Historical Society’s historic homes tour in September. Additional hours will be spent attending both the museum’s and CVHS’s monthly board meetings, participating in special events, attending conferences, and performing research for projects.

The Hyrum City Museum is located just ten miles south of Utah State University. While interning at the museum you will engage in many activities, including, but not limited to, helping catalog and maintain artifacts, developing and enhancing exhibits, planning and participating in educational programs and activities, leading tours of the museum, learning about archival practices, and conducting oral histories. Currently, we have ongoing projects related to the museum archive, the oral history project, the Hyrum City Historical Commission, and an arts committee for local artists. So, wherever your interest in public history lies, you are sure to get a taste of it while interning at the Hyrum City Museum.
